UCLA School of Dentistry conducted research on the next-generation UV technology called VUV-powered activation.

By exploiting a cutting-edge vacuum, UV (VUV) light with a 172nm wavelength combined with an innovative synthetic 
quartz technology — dental implants can be activated in just one minute without unpacking the implant. 

All bio-compromised potentials are restored and turn out even better than the new implants.

The only key to activating/restoring implants is to remove the implant carbon pellicle. 

DIO Implant has developed a one minute activation using VUV,
the most effective UV for photofunctionalization. 

To evaluate the ability of various UV sources to decarbonize and remove implant pellicles, methylene blue solution was tested on the implants. 

The solution becomes perfectly clear after just one minute of VUV- exposure, eliminating all the carbon.

Implants are covered with hydrocarbon pellicles, just like teeth,
and Dr. Ogawa at UCLA School of Dentistry defined it as the implant pellicle.

Just like the dental pellicle prevents tooth re-mineralization and provides bases for oral bacterial biofilm,
the implant pellicle significantly compromises osseointegration and increases the attraction of oral bacteria.  

However, VUV effectively removes the implant pellicle to maximize osseointegration and minimize biofilm development.

The implant pellicle is a carbon film that forms on implant surfaces
by the natural binding of hydrocarbons from the atmosphere.
